One million dollars ? that is the total raised for children?s cancer programs through the 18 years of the City Carton Recycling/Ockenfels Family Foundation Charity Golf Outings.
The golf outing was held recently in Coralville. The one day event raised over $129,000 this year for the American Cancer Society?s Scholarship Program and the ?Children?s Cancer Connection,? a non-profit organization providing support services and programs for children with cancer and their families.
The outing is held in memory of Deborah Ockenfels, daughter of City Carton Recycling founders Mort and Marcy, who died of cancer at the age of 17.
Over 170 golfers, from across the United States and Canada teed off at the outing. Over 45 more friends, family, and City Carton Recycling Team Members assisted with the event held on Aug. 7.
A putting contest and a poker run were held during the event. Raffle tickets were sold throughout the day?s event in the clubhouse and on the golf course. A live auction completed the evening, with auctioneers from Richard Realty and Auction, Mt. Pleasant, donating their time and talent.
