City council awards streets project contract
The Fairfield City Council awarded contracts for several projects during Monday?s meeting.
A $796,431.50 contract for reconstruction of Cromwell Street, Lowe Avenue, Third Street, Briggs Avenue and Madison Avenue was awarded to Shipley Contracting Corp. of Burlington.
Contractors were given two alternatives ? one using concrete and one using asphalt ? on which to bid. Shipley Contracting?s bid, the lowest of three

The Fairfield City Council awarded contracts for several projects during Monday?s meeting.
A $796,431.50 contract for reconstruction of Cromwell Street, Lowe Avenue, Third Street, Briggs Avenue and Madison Avenue was awarded to Shipley Contracting Corp. of Burlington.
Contractors were given two alternatives ? one using concrete and one using asphalt ? on which to bid. Shipley Contracting?s bid, the lowest of three for concrete and one for asphalt ? came in well below the engineer?s estimate of $1,014,958.
?It was nice to see the prices,? said engineer Jerry Long of French-Reneker Associates Inc.
Shipley Contracting will begin work the week of July 5.
Eight bids ranging from $169,540 to $288,770.10 were submitted to the city for paving the Roosevelt Community Recreation Center parking lot.
