WAYLAND ? The Wayland City Council approved several updates to spruce up the town.
The council met in regular session on Wednesday, Aug. 15, and approved the re-roofing of the Water Treatment Plant. Mayor Greg Rich said the roof was leaking and it was an emergent need. In order to save on the expense, the city will help with demolition and hauling away of discarded materials. The council received and approved the only bid which was from Lyle Manning Co. for $5,400.
The council also approved the painting of the exterior of the maintenance shop and its roof, as well as the roof for the fire station. The job will be done by Reichenbach Painting. The exterior of the maintenance shed will cost $2,100 and the roof $900 to paint. The fire station roof will cost $3,500.
At the last meeting, the council discussed surveying and re-platting a plot at the North Plains Subdivision. Originally, there were five plots available for purchase. In order to make them more appealing, the city re-platted the area into four larger lots. This left Lot 17, a corner lot, smaller than the other plats. The council wanted to adjust the lot line but the city atourney said it was not possible. Instead the city decided to re-plat and have the land surveyed in order to make it square.
On the other side of the subdivision, lots 4, 5, 6 and 7 were up for debate. The council approved having them surveyed in order to shift the platting of the property lines forward. The plots are along the highway and have been difficult to sell. To make them more appealing, the council would like to try to plant trees along the highway.
Additionally, the council approved an advertisement for the city phone book. The $100 ad will be 5 inches by four inches and on the inside cover of the book. it will display all city phone numbers such as police, fire and city hall.
In other business, the council:
Approved a renewal application for a Class C Beer Permit for Wayland BP-Cobb Oil.
Approved a tax abatement application for Sharon Stauffer for a new frame house at 106 W. Cummings. St.
Approved building permits for Tracy Brooks at 405 W. Main St. for re-roofing his home and garage.
Approved selling a three-phase generator no longer in use to Jim Conwell for $800.
The next meeting of the Wayland City Council will be Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall.
