City officials are asking drivers to be patient until the problem of poorly timed traffic lights along Burlington Avenue can be resolved.
?We know they?re not right, and we?re not happy with it,? said Fairfield Public Works Superintendent Darrel Bisgard.
Traffic lights along Burlington Avenue and Highway 1 were adjusted in an attempt to alleviate bottleneck situations on Highway 1, but have instead caused traffic to back up in a three-block area.
Bisgard explained the Fairfield City Council requested a Department of Transportation traffic study following the conversion of Burlington Avenue from four to three lanes. The D.O.T. finalized the study ? at no expense to the city ? in February, and a D.O.T. engineer provided Fairfield with the recommended timings now in use.
A city-contracted traffic technician initiated the new timings, as well as the removal of a left turn arrow at Burlington Avenue and Main Street, March 7.
