City-wide garage sale is Saturday

The Washington Evening Journal?s spring running of the city-wide garage sale Saturday drew list of 47 garage sales. Eight of those 47 began today to draw the early-bird shoppers.
Roberta Lenninger and her daughter Joanne Chalupa were out Friday morning perusing the aisles of garage sales in town. By 9:30 a.m., Lenninger and Chalupa said they had visited four garage sales in town and that they planned on visiting a few more later that morning.
?I plan to go to all eight today,? said Lenninger. ?I hope to do this again tomorrow if I?m able to get out of bed. I don?t know how many we?ll go to tomorrow. We?ll be out until we get tired.?
Lenninger said that she looks for good books when she shops at garage sales.
?I?ve found a few good books so far,? she said. ?I look for anything useful.?
Lenninger remarked that this is certainly not the first time she has gone to a garage sale.
?I?ve been going to garage sales for years,? she said. ?I used to get up early and try to be first at all of them, but you can?t do that. I?ve slowed down. We didn?t get out until 8:30 this morning.?
Chalupa said that she looks for household trinkets and sewing fabric in particular when she goes garage sale-shopping.
?This is the fourth one we?ve been to and we are having pretty good luck,? said Chalupa. ?I bought material today and I bought some drinking glasses. I?m big into sewing. I sew for kids and family. That?s basically what I look for. It?s a good deal when you can buy a bunch of material for a quarter or 50 cents when it costs $5 or $6 per yard in the store.?
