WASHINGTON — The Washington High School Class of 1962 visited the new YMCA on Thursday, Sept. 28 to tour the new building in a first look for nearly everyone who participated in the tour.
Many of the alumni shared their stories of growing up in the original YMCA building from swim lessons, summer camp, basketball and evening working at the Y as they got older.
"It seemed everyone had a story about how the Y was a part of their childhood" said Amy Schulte, CEO of the YMCA, who called hearing such stories “one of her favorite things about her role at the YMCA.”
Sara Bartlett asked the group for a show of hands from those who learned to swim at the Y and nearly everyone raised their hand. Schulte said there were nothing but compliments on the new facility and all of the great things happening in Washington from the group.
The Class of 1962 also took the opportunity to present the YMCA with a donation of $2,500 collected form the classmates to go to support the fundraising for the new indoor aquatic center.
