The National ?Click it or Ticket? Campaign, May 23 through June 5, means that Henry County police officers, along with others in Iowa and across the country, will be out both day and night looking for drivers and passengers who fail to use their seatbelts.
The ticket for not wearing a seatbelt is $127, and during the campaign, violators can expect that ticket ? no warnings are given.
Night enforcement has become the priority, because nighttime passengers are the least likely to use their seatbelts.
The Iowa Department of Transportation?s Life Toll program estimates that 6,458 lives have been saved by seatbelts since the state?s safety belt law took effect in July of 1986.
