Despite various reports of ?creepy clown? sightings throughout Henry County, local police say they have yet to verify that any of these reported sightings led to any illegal activity.
According to official statements from the Henry County Sheriff?s Office, reports of clowns walking around various communities in the county have not resulted in any arrests or citations from deputies. Mt. Pleasant Police Chief, Ron Archer, says the Mt. Pleasant Police Department has not received any complaints of clowns disturbing the peace, but says as Halloween approaches, that fact might change.
?There have been reports on the national news about areas where these clown sightings are becoming a nuisance and that sort of thing, and I know that we have heard local kids talk about it,? said Archer. ?I think it might just be a fad at this point with Halloween coming up.?
And while these strange happenings might not be an issue in Mt. Pleasant at this time, Ron Roth, Wayland Police Chief, said his office received reports of two clowns in Wayland on Tuesday night. Roth told city council officials on Wednesday that the individuals dressed as clowns were caught on camera behind school buildings, but at that point, he had not had a chance to speak to the entities involved.
According to Archer, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department does plan to boost their patrols on Halloween simply as a precaution.
Henry County authorities say they are encouraging citizens to promptly report any suspicious or illegal activity within the county to local law enforcement.
