FAIRFIELD – Fairfield’s downtown was full of classic cars Sunday morning, Sept. 22, for the annual Collector Cars Unlimited Car Show.
This year’s show attracted 39 cars, which were parked around Central Park for guests to peruse and enjoy. Collector Cars Unlimited gave out 25 trophies that day, including the two most prestigious honors of Best of Show and Club Choice. The Best of Show Award went to Bob and Liz Hickenbottom for their 1960 Rambler American, while the Club Choice Award went to Ashlyn Allsup for her 1972 Chevrolet Custom 10.
Club member Daryn Hamilton said he was pleased with the turnout especially considering the rainy conditions that morning, which caused organizers to hurry the vote-tallying so that car owners could get away as soon as possible.
“Quite a few people came to walk around, and several wanted to vote,” Hamilton said. “But we don’t allow that. We only allow participants in the car show to vote.”
Hamilton said the photos of the Best of Choice and Club Choice winners will go on the dash plaques that Collector Cars Unlimited gives to all participants.
The car club’s 2025 schedule is already set, Hamilton added. In fact, it will be a carbon copy of its 2024 schedule, with cruise nights that will coincide with the June and August First Friday Art Walks, and then the Annual Collector Cars Unlimited Car Show the day after Kiwanis Kids’ Day. Hamilton said that this schedule has worked well in 2024 because the cruise nights have given the club more exposure, and they’re less work than preparing for a car show.
Those who are interested in learning more about Collector Cars Unlimited can attend their monthly meeting, which is the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Fairfield Pizza Hut.
