Collision sends four to hospital

Two vehicles collided on Highway 92 near Ainsworth Sunday, and four subjects were transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. At 11:35 a.m., the Washington County Communications Center received a report that one vehicle on Highway 92 was in a yard and another was blocking the roadway in the 2900 block.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and learned that a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus was traveling eastbound on Highway 92 and attempting to make a left-hand turn. The Cirrus turned in front of a westbound 2011 Toyota 4-runner. The 4-runner struck the Cirrus, causing it to spin around and come to rest in the south ditch. The 4-runner struck a tree in the north ditch, where it came to rest.

The Washington County Sheriff?s Office is investigating the collision and charges are pending. The Ainsworth Fire Department, Ainsworth First Responders and Washington County Rescue Squad also responded to the scene.
