Comets top New London in extra innings

NEW LONDON ? Conner McElderry scored on an error and Brandon Eklofe smacked a two-run double in the eighth inning Tuesday to lift Cardinal past New London, 12-9.

The Comets, who initially trailed big after allowing seven runs in the first frame, won for the fifth time in the last seven games despite committing nine errors.

Altogether, the Comets hit six doubles and one home run. Ty Short finished 3 for 4 from the plate with the homer, two RBI and four runs scored, and McElderry was 2 for 4 with two RBI. Logan Thorne, Eklofe and Tanner Chance also had two RBI apiece.

Eklofe earned the win in relief, allowing no runs and fanning three in 1 1/3 innings.

Cardinal (11-8, 8-3 SEISC south) hosts Moravia today.
