Area communities have announced schedules for Halloween trick-or-treat and haunted house hours.
In Fairfield, city council, on the advise of police chief Randy Cooksey, set trick or treating from 5:30-8 p.m. Oct. 31.
In Libertyville, the annual Halloween parade and festivities are planned Oct. 31 at Libertyville Elementary School. Lunch, sponsored by Libertyville Little League, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Costumes and floats will be judged at 12:45 p.m., with the parade, including the Fairfield Middle School marching band, stepping off at 1 p.m.
After parading through town and back to the school, costume and float winners will be announced, and the Libertyville ACTION Team will sponsor games for children to play inside the school. For information about the annual parade and festivities, contact Bev Nelson at (641) 693-8202 during evening hours.
Trick or treating in Libertyville will be from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Jerry Droz.
Droz also listed the trick-or-treat hours for other Jefferson County communities:
? In Batavia, trick or treating is set from 5-7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.
? In Lockridge, trick or treating is set from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31.
? The Pleasant Plain City Council set trick-or-treat hours from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31.
? In Packwood, trick or treating is set from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31, but before children start making the rounds, they can attend a Halloween party sponsored by the Packwood Betterment Council from 5-6 p.m. in the fire station community room. Free food, games and prizes are planned.
As of this morning, Droz had not yet heard from Maharishi Vedic City officials about trick-or-treat hours.
Droz plans to have a deputy assigned to each community during its trick-or-treat hours.
?Drivers need to slow down because the little guys will be out there,? he cautioned.
Droz pointed out although most small-town residents know and watch out for each other?s children, parents should still be in close proximity with their trick-or-treaters.

? Birmingham from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 31.
? Brighton from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31.
