MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant Community Band played some rockin’ tunes for their audience last Thursday evening. With some music, pie and arts and crafts the community band concert made for a fun night on the square.
The more than a century old staple held its first concert in over two years Thursday night in the square, according to band director Adam Creager.
This concert is the first of three this month that the band will hold. The concert band was pieced together of those young and old to play some classic music, with a little bit of pop thrown in.
The pieces the band performed consisted of Iowa native Karl King marches, rock, Broadway marches, folk music, and more.
Creager is always excited to host the community band and to be the director year after year, because, as he says, “It’s an artistic release” for the community.
“It’s about getting the community in one spot and having an artistic release,” Creager said.
Not only is the program for the band members themselves to have an artistic release but as the program has grown over the years, the Mt. Pleasant Art Impact has brought arts and crafts for families to participate in and enjoy. The Mt. Pleasant P.E.O. or Philanthropic Education Organization brings pie and ice cream for all to enjoy during the performance.
“It’s not just about me as a middle school band instructor it’s about getting folks together to play and as this has grown it’s become more of a community thing with P.E.O. and Arts Impact,” Creager said.
Mt. Pleasant Arts Impact enjoys bringing out arts and craft for kids to enjoy and participate in during the performance.
The Impact aims at bringing arts to Mt. Pleasant and ensuring that all can enjoy the thriving arts scene in Mt. Pleasant.
Longtime band member Dave Schneider enjoys the band’s yearly performances and helps connect the schools music department and the community band as he is a music boosters member and avid music lover. His love of music has brought him to the community band since 1988.
“It’s just fun, but the neat thing is seeing all the different ages coming together for their shared love of music and a chance to play with different generations,” said Schneider.
The community band is set to have two more concerts this month, they are on Thursday night’s at 7 p.m. in the square.
