MT. PLEASANT - The Mt. Pleasant 2020 Community Visioning Committee is inviting local residents to presentations on proposed improvement projects for the city.
The Community Visioning Program is sponsored by the Iowa Department of Transportation, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and Trees Forever. The program chooses 10 communities across the state with populations below 10,000 to participate. The program allows smaller communities to work with hired planners and designers to develop improvement ideas and concepts for their towns.
The upcoming presentations follow a virtual meeting in June, where the Mt. Pleasant committee first presented six project ideas, including adding roadside plantings and signage to entrances into town by Highway 34 as well as North Broadway; transforming an alleyway adjacent to the main square into a pedestrian walkway; enhancing and adding trail systems throughout the city; and improving signage and aesthetics in various locations.
The group has continued to work with architects and a design team to further develop their vision and ideas for the upcoming presentation. Community members are invited to discuss the proposed projects with the committee and design team.
Presentations will take place Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Temple Theatre with limited seating. Those interested in attending are asked to register with the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce.
