The Washington Community Y held its annual meeting Friday afternoon in the YMCA. The Community Y gave awards to four local entities who earned the title of ?Friends of the YMCA.? The award winners were the Washington County Riverboat Foundation, the Y?s Men and Women?s Club, Washington Community Chest and the City of Wellman.
Liz Hall and Patty Koller are both board members of the Riverboat Foundation and were at the meeting to accept the award. Hall said that the Riverboat Foundation gave $20,000 to the Y in 2007 and then another $44,000 in 2008. The money in 2008 went toward games and equipment for the kids? room on the second floor. Specifically, the Y bought exercise bikes, a rock wall, a Wii and a Dance Dance Revolution video game.
?The Y has used the grant money to do projects for every kind of person, from kids to teens to adults,? said Hall. ?It is a great place for everyone.?
Terry Anderson and Dean Greiner accepted the award on behalf of the Washington Community Chest. Anderson said that the Community Chester is proud to be a strong partner with the YMCA.
