Construction in downtown Mt. Pleasant and beyond continues despite slight rain delays.
Construction crews are working on sewer projects across town and making sidewalks ADA compliant downtown.
'Lots of things are going on if it would quit raining,” Mayor Steve Brimhall said during a Mt. Pleasant City Council meeting on Wednesday, May 8. 'It's really hard to get some of that stuff done when it rains.”
Mike Nelson Concrete Paving Company formed all sidewalks across Monroe Street from North Jefferson Street to North Main Street on Thursday, May 9, and started pouring the regular concrete in the afternoon. They plan to pour red brick inserts on Friday, May 10.
Plywood walkways are still in place. Bob Troutman, with Warner engineering Associates Inc., asks that residents and businesses be patient with construction crews as they move them and pour concrete.
On Monday, May 13, the new six foot ADA sidewalk adjacent to the businesses will be accessible. The contractor will place an orange snow fence between the sidewalk and the street to keep the public away from the construction area. Pedestrians will need to travel to Jefferson Street or Main Street to cross Monroe Street.
Kinney & Sons will start installing the storm sewer on the north side of Monroe Street on Monday. Once the storm sewer is installed, they will remove the street surface for grading and then repaving.
Mike Nelson Concrete Paving Company will start removing bricks from East Washington Street to East Monroe Street on Wednesday, May 15, or Thursday, May 16. Plywood walkways will be placed to keep businesses accessible.
