This little songbird is a male Dickcissel, a sparrow-like bird of prairie grasslands, though it has adapted somewhat to agricultural areas. He sports a yellow stripe above the eyes and a yellow chest with a black patch, and rusty patches on the shoulders. His mate will be duller with a light yellow stripe over the eyes, a whitish throat, dull yellow breast and light gray belly. These could be mistaken for sparrows. Dickcissels migrate in flocks and spend winters in Central and South America.
