LIBERTYVILLE ? A few of the people who made Libertyville ?a great place to live? in 2010 were recognized by the Libertyville City Council during its meeting Tuesday.
Mary Ann Copeland and the late Donald ?Doc? Dunn were honored.
Copeland, recently retired owner and operator of Mary Ann?s Beauty Salon in Libertyville, was honored with the Business of the Year award.
?Mary Ann has been a licensed cosmetologist for 48 years. When she first hung her shingle outside her home, she charged less than $2 for a haircut and is proud to say she has always maintained low costs for her customers,? said Libertyville Mayor Michelle Stump.
Copeland?s one-woman salon maintained several customers over its entire lifespan, and clients spanned Jefferson and Van Buren counties. Copeland also traveled to serve customers at SunnyBrook Assisted Living and SunnyBrook Living Care Center.
Dunn was honored posthumously with the Contributor of the Year award.
?Caring about the community, interest in city politics and somewhat cantankerous in personality are just a few of the phrases that one could use to describe this year?s recipient of the Contributor of the Year award,? Stump said. ?However, tonight we recognize the contributions he has made to our city.?
According to the mayor, Dunn?s contributions have affected many facets of the Libertyville community.
