The Washington City Council will discuss new developments in the proposed agreement with Jeremy Patterson at its regular meeting Wednesday. Patterson has made repairs to the Mills Seed Building on Seventh Avenue and plans to move it to a lot on North Iowa Avenue between Second and Third streets. Patterson?s construction crew is now digging up dirt at the lot on North Iowa to lay a foundation for the building to sit on.
After negotiating with Patterson, City Administrator Dave Plyman prepared a development agreement that would create a TIF district on the North Iowa lot and give Patterson a $25,000 grant. At the Feb. 3 council meeting, Patterson said he thought a grant of $86,000 would be a fairer amount because of the time and money he had already put into remodeling the building. Patterson said that he would give the lot the building currently sits on to the city.
At the Feb. 10 council meeting, Patterson said that he had come up with a new proposal, which was to keep the lot and ask the city for $60,000 in the form of a forgivable loan. The council took no action at that meeting and requested that Patterson present his proposal in writing to Plyman.
Patterson told the council that he plans to have the building on the road by Monday. Patterson said that the move would take three days to complete. He said the building will be moved to a lot owned by Mike Redlinger in the 400 block of East Third Street after the first day of moving. Patterson said that the building will be moved west on Third Street and will probably spend one night on the street between Iowa and Marion avenues. Patterson is requesting that the city close that portion of West Third Street that will be affected by the move.
The council will also hear the third reading of an ordinance to remove junk vehicles from public view. The ordinance was tabled at the Feb. 3 council meeting after a few council members received requests to change the ordinance.
