County attorney?s office to hire new assistant

Changes will be happening next week at the Henry County Attorney?s Office, county supervisors were told during Thursday?s board meeting.

Erin Stensvaag, who has been an assistant county attorney for nearly 10 years, according to Henry County Attorney Darin Stater, has resigned her position effective Feb. 16. Stensvaag tendered her resignation to accept other employment.

In her place, Stater is proposing hiring Terri Quartucci, of Fairfield, as a part-time employee as an assistant county attorney.

?We?ve known her (Quartucci) for a long time,? Stater told the supervisors. ?She has done a lot of court-appointed attorney work.?

Stater said Quartucci will be continuing to work part-time in her private practice.

As an assistant county attorney, she will be paid an initial salary of $45,006 for 25 hours of work per week. She also will receive benefits provided to county part-time employees.

?I haven?t really figured out how to spread her hours out,? Stater said. ?In the first month, I probably will have her come in every morning.? Quartucci is to begin her employment Feb. 21.

Part of Stensvaag?s salary was funded by a federal grant, and Stater said the grant may be discontinued.

?We?ll miss her (Stensvaag),? Stater remarked. ?She?s done a great job.?

Supervisors had no problem with the change in the office but tabled action on the resignation and hiring until receiving a written resignation from Stensvaag.

Randy Janssen from Janssen Waterproofing of Van Horne, discussed some repair work needed at the south door of the courthouse. Over the years the stone beside the door has deteriorated. ?Salt gets underneath it and is tearing it up. We need a more permanent solution,? supervisor Chairman Marc Lindeen said.

Janssen has replaced stone alongside the doors in the past and said he will place solid granite stone by the door. He also plans to put a silicone seal joint at the bottom of the door.

The supervisors authorized Janssen to proceed with the work, weather permitting.

County supervisors meet again Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 9 a.m., in the courthouse.
