The Henry County Habitat for Humanity will break ground on the group?s 24th house this weekend.
The event will be Sunday, April 27, at 2:30 p.m. at the house site located at 311 W. Monroe St. in Mt. Pleasant.
Habitat for Humanity?s partner for the house is Barb Garmoe and her son, Cody. Barb Garmoe was raised in Mt. Pleasant and is currently employed at New London Community Childcare. She had worked for a daycare in Mt. Pleasant for 15 years before it closed.
Just as with every Habitat house recipient, the Garmoe family will be providing ?sweat equity,? in the form of assisting with other habitat sites and attending homeownership classes. Garmoe heard about the Habitat program from friends who are in the Habitat experience.
Deb Savage is the Garmoe family?s family sponsor. ?It is very rewarding to work with a partner who is so enthusiastic about helping with her new home to be,? said Savage.
Guided by a Christian mission, Habitat brings together businesses, foundations, churches, families and individuals to provide affordable housing.
