County receives state audit this morning
The auditor of the state of Iowa, David A. Vaudt, issued an audit report today on Washington County. The auditor of the state of Iowa, David A. Vaudt, issued an audit report today on Washington County. The report indicated the county had tax revenue of $32,239,644 for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2011. That included $1,123,496 from the state in the form of tax credits. The county forwarded $22,447,288 of the local tax revenue to the townships, school districts, cities and other taxing bodies in the county.
The county retained $9,792,356 of the local tax revenue, including tax increment financing, to finance county operations. That is a 3.3 percent increase over the prior year. Other revenues included charges for service of $2,489,982. The operating grants, contributions and restricted interest accounted for $4,832,495 of the total. Capital grants, contributions and restricted interest came to $2,537,720. Local option sales and service taxes amounted to $968,286. The revenue from the gaming wager tax was $436,651. Unrestricted investment earnings were $78,641 and other general revenues were $173,663.
The county?s expenses totaled $17,570,831, which is less than a 1 percent increase over the prior year. Expenses included $5,604,344 for roads and transportation, $3,876,483 for public safety and legal services and $2,366,001 for physical health and social services.
