The Henry County Roads Department is planning for 2019.
A rock crushing project is planned at the quarry for fall 2019. Henry County typically crushes around 160,000 tons of rock every three years and has been paid from various sources over the years, Henry County engineer Jake Hotchkiss said during a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
The project is estimated to cost $675,000 and funding needs to be determined while Hotchkiss is preparing the county secondary road budget.
Over the weekend, the department purchased an 84-inch smooth drum sheepsfoot self-propelled vibratory roller at an equipment auction in Burlington for $38,000. This piece of equipment will be used on shoulder pull projects, rocking program and grading projects, Hotchkiss said.
In other news, the Roads Department is taking advantage of the weather and using it to complete spot rocking projects, work on signs and finish up work on the Benton Avenue culvert, which was opened to traffic on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
Last week, territory operators were blading and crews were sent out to grind bumps on asphalt roads in various locations.
They continued blading and hauled spot rock to various locations throughout the week. They also worked on signs and resumed work on Benton Avenue.
Boom mowers were sent out in the middle of the week. Territory operators continued to work on sings and brush cut in various locations.
Finally, at the end of the week territory operators picked up and hauled tires to the landfill and cold patched in various locations.
