Henry County supervisors approved a $25 increase in fees per meeting paid to township trustees and Veteran Affairs Commission Committee members.
The request to increase trustee fees from $25 to $50 came from a township clerk. Supervisors approved the request effective immediately at a regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The $25 has been standard for 25 years or more, County Auditor Shelly Barber said.
A quick tally of increase in expenses by supervisors came to a $4,000 total yearly increase paid by the county for township trustees and $500 a year plus mileage for VA Commission Committee members.
'It's not going to affect the county's budget greatly,” Barber said. 'It's minimal.”
Trustees meet three times a year unless there are troubles in their township, supervisor Marc Lindeen said. During their meetings they determine their budget, hold a public hearing and approve the annual report.
The VA Commission meets monthly. Additionally, they receive a $10,000 grant every year that covers a lot of their expenses.
Barber mused that she has trouble recruiting trustees and there are empty spots on the voting ballot to fill this fall. The increase could help.
