Craig Hurd narrowly wins Mt. Pleasant School District 1

MT. PLEASANT - Craig Hurd has won a tight race for a seat on the Mt. Pleasant School Board, representing District 1.
According to unofficial election results released by the Henry County Auditor on Tuesday night, Nov. 4, Hurd triumphed over Melinda Huisinga by an extremely narrow margin. Whereas Huisinga received 810 votes, Hurd received 823 (50.3 percent), with a further three miscellaneous write-ins.
In a statement to the Union, Hurd expressed his gratitude for the win:
“I would like to thank the members of the community who took the time to vote. This is truly a privilege that we have in this great country. I look forward to the next four years of working with the community to make sure our school system continues to prepare students with the skills to make meaningful contributions to the community.”
The Henry County Board of Supervisors must canvass the election before results are considered official.
