Crash blocks road, 218 intersection in Ainsworth

AINSWORTH — A crash Thursday afternoon totaled three cars and blocked the roadway around the entrance to Four Corners and the ramp to Highway 218, according to a preliminary accident report from the Washington County Sheriff’s office.

“Unit 1 … was entering the roadway of Hwy. 92, southbound from the business (and) failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign to Unit 2,” the report said. “As a result of that collision, Unit 2 was redirected and struck Unit 3 … that was legally stopped at the Hwy. 218 (southbound) exit stop sign.”

According to the preliminary accident report, driver Gene Kemmerer of Cedar Rapids was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals by ambulance after the crash, while the other two drivers were transported by private vehicles from the scene.

Citations for the incident are pending against Kemmerer, according to the report.
