MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. ? The Kohl?s Department Stores Kohl?s Cares Scholarship Program will award more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes this year. Ranging from $50 Kohl?s gift cards to $10,000 scholarships, more than 2,300 young volunteers who have made a positive impact on their communities will be selected. Since the Kohl?s Cares Scholarship Program began in 2001, Kohl?s has recognized more than 17,000 kids with more than $3.4 million in scholarships and prizes. In 2013, Kohl?s celebrates its 13th year of rewarding young volunteers.
Winning scratch game ticket sold at Fairfield Hy-Vee
The Iowa Lottery continues to see record ticket sales and those numbers produced large lottery prizes across the state this past year.
Lee Ann Myers of Fairfield was the latest big instant-scratch game winner in Jefferson County during calendar year 2012, winning $3,000 in the Holiday Crossword game with a ticket purchased at the Fairfield Hy-Vee Food and Drug Store.
In fiscal year 2012, Iowa Lottery sales hit a record $310.9 million and have continued at a record pace in the months since then.
But even with all the prizes that are claimed, a significant number expire each year without being claimed. The lottery issues reminders to its players to double-check their tickets. In fiscal year 2012, more than $1.1 million in lotto prizes expired in Iowa without being claimed. Prize money left unclaimed after redemption deadlines goes into the lottery?s prize pools for future games, so it will be used to pay prizes, just not those prizes that have expired.
Players will find a current list of unclaimed lotto prizes of $10,000 and above on the lottery?s website at www.ialotterycom.
Online service helps Iowa CDL holders comply with regulations
AMES ? The Iowa Department of Transportation has a new online service aimed at helping commercial driver?s license holders comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations. The ?MyMVD Self-Certification and Medical Examiner?s Certificate? service is available online at https://mymvd.iowadot.gov.
A year ago, the Iowa D.O.T. announced that starting Jan. 30, 2012, and no later than Jan. 30, 2014, all CDL holders must provide information to the D.O.T. about the type of commercial motor vehicle operation they drive in or expect to drive in with their CDL.
Drivers operating in certain types of commerce also are required to submit a current Medical Examiner?s Certificate to the D.O.T. to obtain a ?certified? medical status as part of their driving record. Failure to provide and update a Medical Examiner?s Certificate will result in the downgrading of that individual?s driver?s license from a CDL to a noncommercial license.
