FAIRFIELD – Hundreds of people turned out at Fairfield’s Maasdam Barns Friday night for the annual Barnyard Bash.
This Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce event was sponsored by Jefferson County Farm Bureau and Agri-Industrial Plastics Company. The event lasted four hours, and by the end of the evening, both Jefferson County Pork Producers and Jefferson County Cattlemen had sold out of their meals.
Kids enjoyed numerous activities such as barrel train rides, a bounce house, making bubbles, and many games throughout the grassy area. They got to see some live animals, too, such as horses in the mare barn, along with a sow and her piglets.
In addition to having fun, attendees got an education into old-fashioned farm life by witnessing the Louden hay carrier move hay bales, and a demonstration of corn shelling and rope making, which kids could not only watch but also try their hand at.
“We were thrilled with the event, with a turnout the most we’ve ever seen,” said Mendy McAdams, Executive Director of the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce. “Our vendors were running out of prizes by the end. We were ecstatic so many people came out to support us, even on a home football night.”
McAdams said she was glad so many people came out this year because the turnout for last year was lower than expected, when the food vendors had many meals leftover.
