Darrell Don Hanks, 77, of New London, died on May 19, 2016, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, May 23, at Elliott Chapel, in New London, with Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be at Burge Cemetery, with military rites by Henry County Honor Guard.

Darrell Don Hanks, 77, of New London, died on May 19, 2016, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, May 23, at Elliott Chapel, in New London, with Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be at Burge Cemetery, with military rites by Henry County Honor Guard.
Memorials have been established to New London Fire and Rescue and New London Music Boosters.
Hanks was born on Sept. 23, 1938, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Clarence Perry and Helen Ida Young Hanks. He was a 1956 graduate of New London High School. On Aug. 20, 1966, he married Virginia Pearson, in New London. He was drafted into the Army and served two years during the Vietnam conflict.
He worked at Spahn and Rose Lumber, Fullerton Lumber, the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and retired from Standard of Beaverdale, where he was a salesman.
He was a member of the New London United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed mushroom hunting, spending time with his two grand-daughters, four wheeling in the timber, being outside and reading Louis L?Amour books.
Hanks is survived by his wife; his mother, of New London; one daughter, Carolyn Farley; two grand-daughters; four sisters, Sandra Schnicker, of New London; Nancy (Bill) Larkins, of Burlington; Meri Hanks, of Leander, Texas; and Jane (Steve) Martin, of Ankeny; and one brother, Bill Hanks, of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his father.
