FAIRFIELD – The Elizabeth Ross Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution donated a special flag to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2271 Dimmitt-Vorhies of Fairfield Wednesday afternoon.
The flag is known as the 'Spirit of America Flag,” and goes by the moniker 'Old Glory's Companion.” It honors veterans and heroes from the Revolutionary War to the present-day conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also pays tribute to firefighters, police officers, paramedics, port authority workers, emergency medical technicians and civilians who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
Representatives of the Daughters of the American Revolution met with VFW Cmdr. John Brewington Wednesday to donate the flag, a framed poem and sheet of information about the flag. The DAR representatives said they wanted to thank the veterans for their service.
Every part of the Spirit of America Flag is dedicated to honoring service men and women in some way. The flag includes all of the conflicts America's soldiers have fought in from the Revolutionary War to the present day. It also honors firefighters, police officers, EMTs and other first responders who died on 9/11. (Andy Hallman/The Union)
