Delmar Barton, 93, of Salem, died on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at the Henry County Health Center.
An open visitation will be held from 1:30 to 6 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 14, at Salem Congregational Church, with Pastor Aaron Helterbran officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Henry County Honor Guard. ...

Delmar Barton, 93, of Salem, died on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at the Henry County Health Center.
An open visitation will be held from 1:30 to 6 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 14, at Salem Congregational Church, with Pastor Aaron Helterbran officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Henry County Honor Guard. Interment will be at Salem East Cemetery.

Barton was born on Nov. 25, 1922, in Salem, the son of Rex A. ?Tom? and Birdie M. (McDowell) Barton. He was a graduate of Salem High School Class of 1941. On July 28, 1946, he married Marguerite Morrison, in Salem.
He served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He had trained as a tail gunner on a B29 in the 873rd Bombardment Squadron. A lifelong resident of Salem, he worked as a mechanic and tool and die fabricator at Metromail for 25 years. He retired from this position in 1990. He also served one term as mayor of Salem.
He was a member of Salem Congregational Church.
He enjoyed fishing, trapping, hunting, collecting arrowheads, gardening, and counted cross stitching.
Barton is survived by his wife, Marguerite; three daughters, Nancy (Wayne) Krieger, of Salem; Patty (John) Bohrman, of Mt. Pleasant; and Diane (Robert) Ledbetter, of Salem; six grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
