The weather was cool, but the sun was shining as more than 130 runners lined up for the Demon Dash Saturday morning.
This was the 13th time for the event, a collaboration between Washington Community Schools and the YMCA of Washington County.
In the end, Demon basketball coach Tanner McClenahan was the first across the finish line in the four-mile run, which passes by each of the four school district schools. He clocked the course in 25:11.
Less than four minutes behind McClenahan was 14-year-old Isabella Lujan, a student at Washington Middle School who ran the four miles in 29:09.
This was a fun run, and no awards were given.
The most fun probably was had by the youngsters, parents and teachers who ran the one-mile obstacle course. Speed was not a factor in the fun run, especially since a 10-minute line developed at the ninja obstacle where participants had to walk on two ropes strung between trees, one rope for their hands, the other for their feet.
After finishing the run, participants were treated to a breakfast burrito, fruit and muffins sponsored by the Washington PTO group.
A portion of the Demon Dash proceeds goes to funding a PTO scholarship for a Washington senior.
The remainder of the proceeds are divided among each schools’ physical education programs and YMCA youth education programs.
Washington State Bank has been the title sponsor every year of the Demon Dash. Police, firefighters and volunteers provided traffic control along the course.
