Deputies arrest Mt. Pleasant man after pursuit Wednesday

MT. PLEASANT - Wednesday afternoon Henry County sheriff's deputies pursued a car whose driver was suspected of having outstanding arrest warrants,
About 2 p.m. Wednesday, a deputy spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it in the 1700 block of South Iris Street in Mt. Pleasant.
The driver did not stop and sped off before losing control in the 3100 block of Lexington Avenue and fleeing on foot.
After a brief chase, deputies said they arrested Michael Anthony Earp, 49, of Mt. Pleasant.
A subsequent search warrant was obtained and the vehicle searched.
Earp was charged with driving under suspension, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, interference with official acts - all simple misdemeanors.
He also faces felony charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. An aggravated misdemeanor charge of carrying weapons also was filed.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department and Lee County Sheriff's Office assisted in the arrest and investigation.
Earp was held, after initial appearance with a magistrate judge, on $15,000 bond.
