Henry County deputies investigated a domestic abuse case and engaged in a chase with a motorist in recent days.
Deputies were called on June 19 to a domestic disturbance in the 1800 block of Green Valley Drive. As a result of the incident, Maurah Leonard, of Mt. Pleasant, was charged with two serious misdemeanors ? domestic assault and assault on a police officer.
On June 17, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 200 block of North Wilson Street in Mt. Pleasant when the vehicle failed to yield before the driver, Taylor Wood, of Mt. Pleasant, lead deputies on a short pursuit through Mt. Pleasant in an attempt to elude them.
Wood later fled the vehicle on foot near the intersection of South Jay and East Warren streets before being apprehended a short distance away.
Wood was charged with felony eluding, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving while revoked, failure to obey a stop sign, open container and an active warrant for domestic assault.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
