Harvest season in Iowa generally results in several vehicle-machinery accidents before the crops are in the bin.
That was the case recently in Henry County as sheriff?s deputies investigated two harvest-related accidents on Oct. 14.
Deputies were summoned to a gravel road southwest of Olds at approximately 11:37 a.m., Oct. 14 for an accident involving farm equipment and a small passenger vehicle.
Myron Hoylman, of Wayland, was driving a westbound International tractor pulling two grain wagons filled with shelled corn in the 1600 grid of 130th Street. Hoylman?s rear wagon was struck from behind by a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, owned by Kenneth McDowell and operated by Hailey Egley, of Wayland. Egley was unable to see the farm equipment in front of her due to gravel dust.
Two other female subjects, one of whom was transported to the Henry County Health Center for unknown injuries, were riding in the Egley vehicle. Egley was cited for failure to maintain control.
In the second accident on Oct. 14, deputies were dispatched to the 2000 grid of 170th Street, in Mt. Union.
Adam Ross, 38, of Winfield, was cited for unsafe passing while attempting to pass several farm tractors, according to the accident report. Ross passed one farm tractor and struck another, which was turning, into a driveway. The tractor was being driven by Penelope Burns, 66, of Mt. Union.
Ross? vehicle, a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, was estimated at a total loss. The farm tractor and equipment damages were estimated at $10,000. No injuries were reported from the accident.
