The first of the vehicle-deer accidents was reported at 8:15 p.m. on May 14. A 2015 Lexus, driven by Bipinchandra Patel, of Canton, Ill., was traveling east on U.S. Highway 34 when a deer stepped into the roadway near the 229 mile marker. The vehicle sustained disabling damage, estimated at $10,000.
Just over two hours later, the sheriff?s office investigated a car-deer accident near the intersection of U.S. Highway 34 and 235th Street. Jeremy Yocum, of Mt. Pleasant, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra when a deer stepped into the roadway. Damage was estimated at $3,000 to the vehicle, but it was able to be driven from the scene.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
