Deputy sheriff Tracy Vance announces run for Jefferson County Sheriff

Tracy Vance, Democrat from Fairfield, has announced he is seeking the Democratic nomination for Jefferson County Sheriff. Vance, a current Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff and Fairfield resident, has a diverse background in many areas that he believies makes him uniquely qualified to fulfill the office of Sheriff.

Vance has been with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office since 2012, serving first as a volunteer with the Sheriff's Reserve. In 2013, he was hired as a full-time Sheriff's Deputy. During his time with the Sheriff's Office he has been responsible for organizing the popular Drug Take Back Program, the purchasing and utilization of Narcan for opioid overdose reactions in each sheriff's vehicle, and raising more than $20,000 to start up and implement the Sheriff's Office Drone Unit through grants and community donations.

Vance has more than 30 years in public service beginning in 1983 when he was hired by the Burlington Fire Department. Since that time, he has served as an Emergency Medical Technician, school board member, county supervisor, Chamber Director and Economic Development Director.

'I believe that my thirty plus years in public and community service have given me the skills and knowledge to provide leadership in the Sheriff's Office,” Vance said. 'This experience gives me a well-rounded background in managing budgets and staff, overseeing projects that involve different aspects of the community, and a strong understanding of what a town needs to not only be safe, but to thrive and prosper. I believe the Sheriff's Office has to be responsive to the law enforcement needs of the county while partnering with the community in the economic and social wellbeing of its citizens in a way that assures their safety with fair and equal treatment.”

Vance lives in Fairfield with his wife, Janet. They have one grown son, Ross.
