A dog shot in Rome by a Henry County Sheriff?s deputy May 16 is recovering after being treated by a local veterinarian.
According to the sheriff?s office, a report was received of a dog running at large in the northern part of Rome, barking and growling at people.
While investigating the report, a Henry County Sheriff?s deputy was advised that the owners of the dog in question allow the dog to run loose frequently. It was reported the dog was being aggressive ? growling and showing its teeth ? toward several neighbors while the neighbors were working in their yards.
As the deputy was walking across a public street, the dog aggressively ran into the street, toward the deputy and the private citizen again. The deputy then shot the dog to protect himself and the public.
The dog was taken by its owners to a veterinarian for treatment.
