Donald L. Nicholson, 98, of Washington, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the United Presbyterian Home, in Washington.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the United Presbyterian Church, in Washington, from 10 to 11 a.m., on Monday, March 6, 2017. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bill Warhover officiating, followed by burial at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Donald L. Nicholson, 98, of Washington, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the United Presbyterian Home, in Washington.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the United Presbyterian Church, in Washington, from 10 to 11 a.m., on Monday, March 6, 2017. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bill Warhover officiating, followed by burial at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Nicholson was born on Aug. 25, 1918, the son of James Lee and Sylvia Marie (Cook) Nicholson. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army, serving in the Africa - Italy campaign of World War II, where he was a Staff Sergeant with the 31st Ordnance Co. of the 5th Army until the war ended. After returning, he married Davida Belle Fisher.
The family farmed near Trenton until 1988.
Nicholson is survived by his wife, Davida; his son, Dean (Dianne) Nicholson, of Freeport, Ill.; his daughter, Pat Ryan, of Iowa City; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother.
