Did you know that there?s not a single public place in Jefferson County where dogs are allowed to legally run off-leash? The Fairfield Off-Leash Dog Park Committee is still working hard to rectify this situation for Fairfield?s dogs and their humans! Fairfield is soon to join the ranks of cities with Off-Leash Dog Parks, but we?ve hit a few snags which require further fundraising for Fairfield to add this asset to its list of world-class recreational opportunities.
A ?Dog Park? is a securely fenced-in area designed to allow well-behaved dogs to run, play, and socialize off-leash with other dogs while their owners enjoy visiting with other dog owners. Dog parks have recently been built in Ottumwa, Washington, and other nearby communities, and their city leaders are thrilled with the results! The benefits to Fairfield will include happier, better-behaved dogs ? since exercise and socialization help dogs be calmer and less destructive ? and, a controlled, legal area for dogs to run off-leash.
The Dog Park Committee has diligently worked for four years now to raise the money needed for constructing the dog park ? the city is not paying for it! If you have the means, we would appreciate a donation of whatever you can afford to help us reach our goal yet this fall! You can drop by Fairfield Park and Recreation with a donation, or mail to: Park and Recreation Foundation ?Dog Park,?? 1000 W. Burlington Ave., ?Fairfield 52556. Or, you can donate online at cityoffairfieldiowa.com/utility/showArticle/?objectID=2528.
We?re excited to make this happen for Fairfield?s dogs, their owners, and the whole community!
