Doris Jean Meyer, 88, of Wayland, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Parkview Home in Wayland.
A graveside service will be held Friday, July 17, 2015, at 10 a.m., at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Cemetery in rural Wayland. A memorial celebration will be held Friday, July 17, at 11 a.m., at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in rural Wayland with Rev. Nathan Luitjens officiating. Doris Jean Meyer, 88, of Wayland, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Parkview Home in Wayland.
A graveside service will be held Friday, July 17, 2015, at 10 a.m., at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Cemetery in rural Wayland. A memorial celebration will be held Friday, July 17, at 11 a.m., at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in rural Wayland with Rev. Nathan Luitjens officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 16, from 1 to 8 p.m., at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church where the family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and Parkview Home in Wayland.
Meyer was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Wayland, to Emery I. and Edna Ruth (Wenger) Eigsti. She married Dean Meyer on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 1945. Meyer spent the first year of marriage in New Jersey working as a housekeeper for a wealthy family while Dean served with Civilian Public Service in a mental hospital.
Meyer was a member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. She enjoyed mission work, cooking and spending time with her family.
Meyer is survived by two sons, R.D (Brenda) Meyer, of Laguna Nigel, Calif.; Robert (Karen) Meyer, of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Kathy (Dave) Schooley, of Wayland; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant sister, Marilyn; and one brother, Mervin.
Beatty Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
