Dorothy L. Settles

Dorothy L. Settles, 88, Mt. Pleasant, died on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Open Bible in Mt. Pleasant. The Rev. Mike Johnson will be officiating. Burial services will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Open Bible Church. She was born on Aug. 4, 1926, in Macomb, Ill. She was the daughter of Gustof A. and Hazel D. Knight Hvarven. She married Leslie L. Settles on Feb. 12, 1950, in Macomb. He preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker, enjoyed fishing and watching old movies. She was a member of the Church of the Open Bible.

She is survived by her children: Randy Settles (Martha) of Mt. Pleasant and Alan Settles (Carrie) of Muskogee, Okla., 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one brother, Claire Varven of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson and two brothers: Dale and Bill.
