WASHINGTON - Washington County Hospital and Clinics announced a new member to the hospital Board of Trustees, Michael Driscoll.
Driscoll was recently elected during the general election in November. Along with Driscoll, David Bruns and Michael Van Osdol were elected to serve a second term as trustee for WCHC.
Driscoll was sworn in Dec. 3 to fill a seat left vacant by Karolyn Leary. He has served on the Washington Betterment Foundation, St. James school board and 11 years on the Washington Riverboat Foundation.
A native of Washington, he graduated from Washington High School in 1989 and from Iowa State University in 1993. He joined the staff at Marshall's Furniture & Flooring in 1995 and has been the owner and operator of this business for 14 years.
'I am excited to join the trustees and welcome the opportunity to use my business skills to help the hospital continue to succeed,” Driscoll said. Joining the board is a challenge that Driscoll is looking forward to and he would like to thank the community for their support and trust in him to serve.
As WCHC welcomed Driscoll, they thanked Karolyn Leary for her dedicated service to the board. Originally elected to the board in 1998, she has served on the board for a total of 18 years, with her most recent term beginning in 2015.
Leary has provided WCHC with valuable insight as a trustee from her background of working at University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital in the division of pediatric neurology as well as working for dentists, Dr. J. Michael Leary and Drs. James and Ann Harris as well as financial adviser, James D. Gorham. She has been working for the Children's Hospital for more than 18 years and plans to continue to work in this division.
'The biggest reward for serving on the Hospital board of trustees is the wonderful providers, directors, and staff of WCHC. I truly appreciate the dedication everyone shows to the continued success of WCHC,” Leary said. After the pandemic ends and with her added free time, Leary is hoping to do more traveling.
The seven-member elected Board of Trustees provides guidance into WCHC's mission and strategy as well as oversight of the organization's financial health and sustainability. Members are elected by voters of Washington County for a four-year term. The WCHC board meets on the last Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. at Washington County Hospital.
