BRIGHTON — A 21-year-old woman from Wayland died Saturday after her car left the road and rolled over several times about a mile east of Brighton.
An Iowa State Patrol preliminary accident report said Natalie Paramo’s car lost traction on a curve of Highway 78 west of Toadflax Boulevard, just before 4 p.m. Nov. 30. It rolled several times into a ditch, ejecting her in the process.
Paramo was not wearing a seat belt.
An infant girl in the car at the time was not seriously injured according to the second report, which said she was buckled into a rear-facing child safety seat. The child was transferred to a hospital with non-life-threatening “suspected injuries,” according to state and county records, but accounts of which hospital conflicted between different police departments.
The state patrol’s investigation found Paramo was not intoxicated when the accident happened based on a blood test, but officers couldn’t deduce whether she was distracted at the time of the single-vehicle crash, and the report didn’t include an explanation for how she lost control of the vehicle. Road conditions at the time were dry.
Washington County Ambulance, Brighton QRS, the Brighton Fire Department and Rescue 92A also responded to the call for service, according to county records, as did Jones Eden Funeral Home according to the state preliminary accident report.
