Driver loses control of semi on Highway 34

N/A Mar. 2, 2021 12:00 am Updated: Mar. 1, 2021 2:54 pm

Saturday at approximately 2:22 a.m., the Henry County Sheriff's Office received a report of a semi roller over on U.S. Highway 34. The semi was found near mile marker 240 east of Mt. Pleasant.

After investigation, it was found that the driver, Mohamed Yusuf, 38, of St. Cloud, Minn. lost control of the 2017 Freightliner semi and trailer while traveling eastbound on Highway 34. The semi and trailer crossed over the median into the other lanes of traffic, then rolled after being driven into the north side shoulder and ditch of the highway.

Though minor injuries were suspected, according to the police report, both Yusuf and an unnamed passenger declined medical attention. Yusuf was cited for failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle. It is estimated that the damages to the semi, trailer and hauled product were $250,000. The Henry County paramedics along with the New London Police Department assisted with this motor vehicle crash.
