The teacher contracted to teach driver education at Fairfield High School has been charged with providing alcohol to minors in Coralville.
Coralville police say Fred Bindner, owner of Auto Right Driving School in Mount Pleasant, allegedly offered wine to two teenage girls at a restaurant during driving time June 27 and then continued with their lessons.
A third driving student did not take any wine and told her father, who contacted police.
Bindner is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 1.
Bindner has provided driver education in the Fairfield school district for the past three years, and the Fairfield Community School Board of Directors approved a new contract negotiated by FHS principal Aaron Becker with Auto Right Driving School during a special meeting Tuesday.
Superintendent Art Sathoff said the district was unaware of the incident or charges when the new contract was negotiated and approved.
?Mr. Becker and I are looking at it and working on what needs to be done,? said Sathoff. ?Things are evolving.?
A new session of driver education with Auto Right Driving School is set to begin Aug. 29.
