Citations were issued against both drivers in a two-vehicle accident Oct. 15 in Mt. Pleasant.
According to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department?s accident report, the vehicles collided at the intersection of East Washington and South Walnut streets. An investigation into the collision revealed that a 2008 Toyota Camry, owned and operated by Matthew Calcango of Mt. Pleasant, was eastbound on Washington Street and failed to stop for the red light at the intersection with South Walnut Street.
The Calcango vehicle struck a 2001 Ford Escape, owned by Raelyn Thompson of Cedar Rapids and operated by Logan Nedrow of Cedar Rapids. The Thompson vehicle was attempting to turn left onto South Walnut at the time of the collision.
Nedrow and a passenger in the Calcango vehicle were transported from the scene to the Henry County Health Center by the Henry County Ambulance.
Calcango was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Nedrow was ticketed for failure to yield upon a left turn.
The Thompson vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 in damages while damage to the Calcango vehicle was estimated at $10,000.
Assisting the Mt. Pleasant Police Department at the scene were the Iowa State Patrol, Henry County Sheriff?s Office and the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department.
