Dwayne and Andrea Wright inducted into 4-H Hall of Fame

Dwayne and Andrea Wright have served 4-H for many years. The husband and wife were recognized for their years of dedication and hard work with an induction into the 4-H Hall of Fame.

Dwayne was a volunteer 4-H leader of the New London Pioneers for over 10 years.

Over the years, he has had a hand in the creation of several organizations and events.

He organized the Henry County Fair Swine Committee, New London Pioneer ski trips, implemented yearly sweet corn fundraisers and mentored a multitude of younger 4-H participants.

Andrea has done her fair share of service too.

She has had a part of the club leader role and served on the Henry County Fair Board for the last 15 years.

During her time as Fair Board President in 2020, she helped create an environment that was as safe as possible during the fair, in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the Wrights, it truly is a family affair.

Their three children, Kaitlin, Corey and Aaren, all participated in 4-H. They all took part in livestock shows, Share the Fun and static exhibits.

Even after their children graduated, both Andrea and Dwayne felt it was essential to stay involved.

“Even though my kids graduated, we stayed involved because we believe in the program that much,” Andrea said. “We truly believe in what we’re doing. It’s a great program, and the fair is a great way to get kids involved. It’s just been really good.”

Wright said it is a great honor to receive the dedication.

“It’s amazing, and I was kind of in shock,” she said. “It was such a huge honor because I read what everyone had wrote about us. It almost made me speechless, which is hard to do. Then it was so nice, and you feel so appreciative, and you work so hard because you really believe in what is going on. It was a true honor.”

Andrea said she couldn’t thank Erin Heaton, who was the one that nominated them, enough.
