Patching work on U.S. 34, starting at mile marker 234 north of Mt. Pleasant, will require closing the eastbound lanes of U.S. 34 and the eastbound on-ramp at Grand Avenue from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 4, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Fairfield construction office.
Motorists will be directed to use an official off-site detour. Signs will direct eastbound travelers off the highway at Grand Avenue and through Mt. Pleasant on Winfield Avenue, Iris Street and back onto Highway 34 on Washington Street on the east side of the city.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
