WEST BURLINGTON ? Denny Eckrich of Tiffin took the checkered flag in the first 2013 Deery Brother Summer Series event held at West Burlington?s 34 Raceway on April 6.
The Fifth Annual Slocum 50 Memorial race honors former late model racer Brent Slocum and contributed $1,335 to the Brent Slocum Scholarship Foundation, as $1 for each paid grandstand admission went to the fund.
Forty-six late models competed for the 24 spots in the 50 lap feature through five heats and two B-Mains.
Before the start of the main event, drivers did a four abreast parade lap in ?missing man? formation, leaving an open spot on the front row in memory of Slocum.
Fans rose to their feet, giving the familiar Slocum ?High Five.? Family members of Brent Slocum were on hand, with daughter Isabelle presenting the trophy to the winner.
Coming up this Saturday, April 13, will be the MOWA (Midwest Open Wheel Association) 410 Outlaw Sprints. Along with the 410 sprints will be the Pepsi IMCA Stock cars, I Connect You/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders, Mod Lites and 4 Wheelers and Pit Bikes.
